Local Advocates Set Intentions to Launch “Roots of Resilience” Collective to Address Black Maternal Health

Brunswick, GA — A new community-rooted initiative is taking shape in Southeast Georgia with the intent to transform how maternal health is approached and supported. Powered by Opportunity UpLIFTed, Inc., the Roots of Resilience Collective is a grassroots effort born from a series of maternal health advocacy talks that brought together doulas and community care providers ready to work together for lasting change.

The collective emerges from the belief that maternal health equity should be the standard—not the exception. It represents a shared commitment from five local organizations: Opportunity UpLIFTed, Moontide Wellness, Nurturing Excellence, The Walk Through, and Power Love Sound Mind. Together, they aim to create a network of advocacy, education, and holistic support that complements medical care and uplifts mothers before, during, and after birth.

“This work isn’t new—but our approach is intentional,” said Charmaine Richardson, executive director of Opportunity UpLIFTed. “Roots of Resilience is about coming together as a village to ensure every mother is seen, heard, and valued.”

While legal formation and infrastructure are still in development, the work is already underway. The collective will operate with a deep focus on culturally responsive care, informed support, and building trusted partnerships across Southeast Georgia. As a soft launch, this announcement marks the beginning of a public journey toward accountability, collaboration, and care.
